These works are about visual perception, using repetition, layering and color to create the illusion of movement and space. The works retain a deceptive flatness, a hesitance to gesture and other vestiges of the hand, but when viewed up close quickly reveal themselves as heavily layered, their density built through a steady repetition of masking and painting, the process creating a space full of subtle frictions and vibrating lines. This process provides a visual analog to passing time, each line and layer a nod to time spent stretching and cutting and painting and peeling, while acting as a sort of bait, drawing the viewer in to investigate its means and methods. The goal is pleasure in slight tension, small moments of visual clarity undone by its own obfuscation, all pointing to the playful unreliability of vision.
